Ioan Grillo has reported on the Mexican drugs war since it began, as he explains in this adapted extract from his newly published book El Narco: The Bloody Rise of Mexican Drug Cartels.

Four of the corpses are sprawled over a shiny-new Dodge Ram pick-up truck that has been pierced so many times it resembles a cheese-grater. The bodies are contorted in the unnatural poses of the dead – arms arched over spines, legs spread out sideways.

The fifth man is a moustached 48-year-old lying 10 feet from the pick-up, bathed in his own blood. His eyes are wide open, his right hand stretched upward clasping a 9-mm pistol – a death pose that could have been set up for a Hollywood movie.

It is a balmy evening in Culiacan, Sinaloa, near Mexico‘s Pacific coast. The policemen had stopped at a red light when the gunmen attacked, shooting from the side and back, unleashing bullets in split seconds. A customised Kalashnikov can unload 100 rounds in 10 seconds. Known to carry clout with the powehouse Schiavone led Casalesi clan, Pagano got hit the hardest with a fourteen year jolt in prison by an Anti Mafia judge who noted his impressive fleet of trucks was also at the service of other activities of the Casalesi, such as arms trafficking

Anti Mafia investigators through wiretaps and a police informer had established that Sicilian Mafia brothers Sfraga, agents for fugitive Matteo Massina Denaro and Gaetano Riina had set up a meeting in Sicily with Costantino Pagano– who brokered a merger with the Casalesi clan to join forces with the Sicilians for the sole control of all transport in most of the regions in Italy by forcing the exclusion of other carriers as a means to monopolize the fruit and vegetable markets through mafia backed Paganese transportation.

‘Mob Wives’ Renee Graziano Hospitalized After Dad’s Bust in Mafia Crime Sweep

Mob Wives” star Renee Graziano was rushed to a NYC hospital by ambulance today … just hours after feds busted her father and several other Bonanno crime family Mafia members.

Sources close to the Graziano family tell TMZ ..Renee had a panic attack, collapsed, and had trouble breathing when she got news that her dad, Anthony “TG” Graziano, had been arrested in an early morning raid.

A “Mob Wives” rep confirms Renee was admitted to the emergency room and is still getting treatment right now.

Mob wives’ rat helps feds make bust

Mob wives’ rat helps feds make bust. Federal agents busted several high-ranking Bonanno crime-family members yesterday and charged them with racketeering and extortion, authorities said.

Among those arrested in the joint FBI-Drug Enforcement Administration probe was a senior member of the Bonanno ruling administration, as well as capo Anthony “TG” Graziano, the father of “Mob Wives” star Renee Graziano.

Her ex-husband, ex-mob associate Hector Pagan, is now a DEA informant who gave the feds information that led to the massive sweep.

Anthony Graziano, 71, was released recently from prison but then quickly ensnared in an earlier DEA probe that predated yesterday’s developments.

In that previous case, Pagan reportedly wore a wire and secretly recorded conversations for the feds with his ex-father-in-law while discussing the collection of a loan-shark debt.

Graziano was indicted by Brooklyn federal prosecutors on those earlier charges just last week.

Yesterday, Bonanno ruling administration member, Vincent “Vinny TV” Badalamente, was charged with shaking down several restaurants and bars in Manhattan and Brooklyn and also allegedly “took over” a bar on Coney Island Avenue after its owner failed to pay back a debt, Brooklyn federal prosecutors said.

Bonanno capo Nicholas “Nicky Mouth” Santora was charged with conspiracy to distribute marijuana and illegal gambling, according to an indictment unsealed yesterday To read Click Here
