HARTFORD — James Galante, the former southwestern Connecticut trash mogul who’ll be in prison until 2015 for a massive bid-rigging and racketeering operation, was able to keep about $10.75 million as part of his federal plea deal.

But Attorney General Richard Blumenthal this week filed a lawsuit in state court to possibly seize that money and other assets and properties, including a solid-waste operation in Kentucky, to pay back the victims of his schemes.

During a noontime news conference, Blumenthal said Tuesday that he’ll ask the state Superior Court to recover millions of dollars for thousands of state consumers, including Yale University, who were overcharged as part of Galante’s operation.
