A FORMER associate of slain gangster Kevin ‘Gerbil’ Carroll was arrested yesterday in connection with his death.
Craig ‘Rob Roy’ Gallagher, 30, was nabbed by police officers investigating the execution of Carroll at an Asda car park in Robroyston, Glasgow.
Carroll, 29, was blasted by three masked gunmen in front of horrified women and children shoppers during the daylight attack on January 13.
He was sitting in the back of a black Audi when shots were fired into the car.
Carroll is said to have been pals with Gallagher for several years.
A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said: “A 30-year-old man has been arrested and is presently detained in police custody in connection with the death of Kevin Carroll.
“A full report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
It is expected that Gallagher, from Torrance, Dunbartonshire will appear in court today.
Carroll grew up in the tough Possil area of Glasgow.
He went from being a bit-part crook to a major player in the local gang scene.
A car spotted at Carroll’s shooting was found torched on January 15 around six miles away in Glenmavis, Airdrie.
Detectives said the motor had cloned plates and was stolen in September from the Rutherglen area.
On January 29 police confirmed a firearms stash found behind Coatbridge Library had been used in the shooting.
