Glasgow Mob enforcer, Kevin “Gerbil” Carroll’, has a gangster friend who is fighting for his life in hospital after being pulled from his car and mutilated in a late night attack in Glasgow’s Gangland.
STV News can reveal Brian Hanlon was repeatedly beaten and stabbed by six or seven men using hammers, knives and chisels in Maryhill Road on Sunday.
His Audio estate was forced off the road and smashed into a wall. The attack is being treated as attempted murder.
A week earlier his twin brother James was attacked in similar circumstances in Stepps – he was chased from his car and had his head bored by a power drill.
Brian Hanlon suffered severe head injuries in the attack and has undergone brain surgery. He also needed emergency groin operations.
The brothers are understood to be associates of Kevin “Gerbil” Carroll, the gangland enforcer who was shot dead outside the ASDA supermarket in Robroyston in January.
Ross Monaghan, 28, is accused of repeatedly shooting and killing Mr Carroll outside Asda in Robroyston on January 13. He is due to stand trial later this year.
Detectives are understood be be looking at the likelihood a rival gang was behind the targetted attacks on the Hanlon brothers.
They have some information about the cars the attackers used on Sunday. They were a silver BMW 5 series and a dark coloured 4×4 like a Range Rover.
Strathclyde Police are also checking CCTV pictures from the area where Mr Hanlon was attacked.
