 mafia turncoat Emilio DiGiovine’s daughter,  Marisa Merico, who was facing a jail term in Italy for Mafia crimes, and lives in Blackpool,  has been cleared to stay in the UK.

Marisa Merico, 40, served time in Milan for money laundering and drug offences and faced being hauled back to Italy to finish her sentence. But the Italian authorities’ bid for the mum-of-two’s extradition was refused at London Westminster Court.

Yesterday Marisa,  dauhter of a  Mafia don  told the Sunday Mirror: “I am relieved and pleased this sentence hanging over my head has been lifted. I have been punished and I want to move on with my life.”

The “Mafia Princess”, from Poulton-Le-Fylde, Lancs, served 14 months of a 42-month sentence in the late 1990s. Italian officials may appeal the decision..
