PROVIDENCE –– Standing before the white marble State House under a steel-gray sky, Steven G. O’Donnell was sworn in Saturday as the 12th superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police, taking the helm of an 86-year-old organization that he vowed to lead with “honor, courage and integrity.”

One of those mobsters, the current reputed New England crime boss Louis “Baby Shacks” Manocchio, was at the ACI at the time, awaiting trial for his role in planning the famous mob hit of Rudolph Marfeo and Anthony Melei, renegade bookmakers who had refused to pay tribute to mob boss Raymond L.S. Patriarca
