Ex-Mob hitman turned mob canary Johnny Martorano was singing the same old song, “Whitey made me do it.” at the trial of mobster James “Whitey” Bulger
Martorano who admitted to killing twenty people said on the stand he was telling the truth to authorities about Whitey being involved in 11 of the murders but said he lied to his very close friend just before he blew his brains out.
“I couldn’t tell him I was going to shoot him,” Martorano told the court of the murder of John Callahan, a close friend for decades who was murdered, the hitman testified, because Bulger “insisted on it.”
It was one of several lies that lawyers from accused Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger elicited from Martorano, a star prosecution witness in Bulger’s trial for 19 murders and other crimes
Winter Hill Gang leaders Johnny Martorano, Stevie Flemmi and Whitey Bulger acted as enforcers for the Patriarca crime family of La Cosa Nostra, like the late hitman Joe Barboza
