Soul singer, musician and songwriter Bobby Womack has died at the age of 70.

The cause of his demise has not been revealed, but he suffered from cancer and Alzheimer’s disease and fought drug addiction.

Womack played, recorded and wrote for some of the industry’s greatest names including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Wilson Pickett.

Womack was also a session guitarist and played on tracks by Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin and Dusty Springfield
