Italian police on Wednesday in the Sicilian province of Enna  executed a pre-trial detention order issued against two alleged   members of  the  Mazzei clan of  Cosa Nostra

The suspects, 44-year-old Carmelo Pantalena and 38 year-old Sebastiano Sudano, are accused of running  a rapacious extortion racket in which farmers  with   live stock  and other victims were forced   to fork over large amounts  of money, and  valuable  animals,  or  receive serious retaliation by ruthless   enforcers  of  the  Mazzei clan

The suspects had already been subjected to a custodial arrest warrant  issued on July 24th  and  were placed in  prison in Catania charged  with aggravated extortion made worse by mafia involvement
