Charles Carnesi

Gang Land’s Jerry Capeci writes,

There was an unusually high volume of traffic last weekend at 13th Avenue and 79th street in the old neighborhood. Hundreds of very sad travelers came there from near and far to pay their final respects to Charles Carnesi, a loving son, and devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather from Bensonhurst who was also a top notch defense attorney for four decades.

The Torregrossa Funeral Home parking lot was filled on Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening as relatives, friends, clients and colleagues gathered to mourn Carnesi’s passing and recall the always-optimistic, straight-shooting barrister whose life was snuffed out quite suddenly by pancreatic cancer a few days earlier at the age of 69.

Charlie Carnesi won more than his share of big cases over the years. He even played himself in a movie about one of them – and got good reviews for his role in what most critics say was the worst movie of 2018. But folks at the two day wake spoke mostly about the good-natured, good-hearted, good guy who was quick to help young inexperienced lawyers as well as old timers who had seen better days, and how he did that while earning the respect of prosecutors he battled in court as well as the judges he appeared before.
