Vincent Bruno & Grandmother

Gang Land’s Jerry Capeci writes

The single worst photo in the now-completed testimony at the trial of four alleged Luchese gangsters charged with the 2013 execution of former Purple Gang leader Michael Meldish had nothing to do with murder. It wasn’t a gruesome shot of the murdered Meldish still sitting behind the wheel of his car, after being hit, gangland-style, with a bullet in the back of the head.

Instead, it was a photo introduced last week during the testimony of the government’s last cooperating witness. It showed a Bronx drug dealer named Vincent Bruno surrounded by a dozen fat plastic bags stuffed with marijuana.

It shows Bruno grinning, proudly hoisting one of the bags for the photographer, with his arm around his partner in crime. And there she is, gripping her walker, her silver hair piled in a bun, frowning at the camera: Bruno’s 95-year-old grandmother.
