CLEVELAND – A few weeks ago, I posted a story about the fallout from the Danny Greene killing. Ray Ferritto, the Mob hit man who killed Greene, turned himself in and did at the time what in the world of organized crime was unthinkable. He talked.

Among those brought down as the 1970s and 80s world of organized crime unraveled were James Licavoli and John Calandra. They, along with Anthony Liberatore, Pasquale “Butchie” Cisternino, Kenneth Ciarcia and Ronald “The Crab” Carabbia were convicted on racketeering charges, including the 1977 bomb murder of Danny Greene.

Licavoli and Calandra were released from the old Cleveland Federal Courthouse on Superior Avenue in downtown pending their sentencing at a later date.

Let’s go back to July 8, 1982 just after the 3:45 p.m. announcement of the verdicts. A throng of media await the men outside the front doors of the courthouse, including WEWS reporter Paul Orlousky and WEWS videographer Bob Wilkinson.
