Italian police have arrested Elio Amato, a mafia boss who has been on Italy’s list of 100 most wanted criminals, a report says.

The police suspect Amato of being involved in drug trafficking as the boss of Amato-Pagano family clan, which is a breakaway division of Naples’ Camorra mafia gang, DPA reported.

The Amato-Pagano clan’s breakaway which led to 60 deaths, was to take over local drug trafficking operations, Euronews reported.

The clan’s hitman, who is also one of Amato’s nephews, was also arrested.

The Sunday bust came three days after police arrested another leading figure in the Amato-Pagano gang.

Cesare Pagano, was arrested in a raid at his seaside villa near Naples on Thursday, UPI reported.

Interior Minister Roberto Marconi hailed the arrests as “another important victory against organized crime.”

The Camorra, Naples’ version of the Sicilian Mafia, operates in Naples as well as the surrounding Campania region.
