A handout photograph provided by the Mexican Marine Secretary shows Marine members carrying 5,683 tons of marijuana found on three boats at the shores of Sinaloa state, Mexico, on Oct. 3, 2010. Marine members saw three abandoned minor ships and found the drug packages in two of them.

The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control announced it sanctioned members and entities associated with the Sinaloa drug cartel, including collaborator Alejandro Flores Cacho, which operates in Mexico and Colombia.

Cacho is a pilot who coordinates the delivery and distribution of drugs by air and sea from South America to Mexico and then onto the U.S., Treasury said in a statement. His network is supported by three Mexican companies, all of which were among those designated under the Kingpin Act, which bans U.S. citizens from doing any business with them and freezes any assets under U.S. jurisdiction.  Reports Wall Street Journal
