The popular weekly magazine Friday, published photos of celebrity Shinsuke Shimada together with yakuza boss, Hirofumi Hashimoto, in their Sept. 30 edition. At his resignation press conference, Shimada denied such photos existed and said if they did, “I’ll commit hara-kiri.” As of today, he is thankfully still alive.
After revelations of Yakuza mafia connections forced out Shinsuke Shimada ,’the Jay Leno of Japan,’ the Japanese police have launched a major effort, reports Jake Adelstein, to clean out the mobsters from the entertainment industry.
