Luis Octavio López Vega , an adviser to a corrupt powerful General who was in cahoots with organized crime cartels was recruited as an informant by the DEA
 
Mr.López eventually gave explosive testimony about Mexico’s military being  linked to the drug cartels and was targeted  for  revenge   The D.E.A origionally helped him hide and then severed ties with him. Nowadays he lives like a down-at-the-heel hobo
 
A Sad situation for a man who  played a leading role in what is widely considered the biggest drug-trafficking case in Mexican history– inspiring  the movie ‘Traffic ‘ starring Michael Douglas .
