DALLA CHIESA: UN INTRECCIO DI SEGRETI LUNGO TRENT'ANNI / SPECIALE

Last Thursday a    ceremony was held in Palermo in  memory of Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, a  general from Italy’s Carabinieri military police who was killed by the Sicilian Mafia 33 years ago., reports Ansa  news

The general  played a pivotal  role in the fight against terrorism in Italy in the 1970s, helping to capture members of the militant left-wing Red Brigades organisation.

Dalla Chiesa  was  serving as prefect of Palermo in 1982 when he and his wife  were murdered in a bullets riddled  ambush  by members of a  Sicilian  mafia hit squad

One of  the   hitmen,  Michele “The Pope” Greco ,  rose to the top of the underworld in Sicily,  to the powerful position of  boss of  the Cosa Nostra  Commission,  and  was  eventually  convicted  of the  multiple  murders  in the largest Mafia trial in history

Italian President Sergio Mattarella said in a statement that Dalla Chiesa was a leading example for younger generations, due to his “unyielding battle against the insidious work of terrorist and criminal organisations and his clever and persistent action”.
