Prime Minister of Italy is ramping up efforts to crackdown on corruption
Premier Matteo Renzi said his government will take swift action to boost anti-corruption measures a day after Venice’s mayor was arrested as part of corruption probe into the construction of a five billion euro flood barrier in the city.
“We’ll definitely take action in the next few hours and days on public contracts, anti-corruption (measures) and other specific issues,” Renzi told a press conference at the G7 summit reports Ansa news
Venice Mayor Giorgio Orsoni, who was elected on a ticket backed by Renzi’s centre-left Democratic Party (PD), was among 35 people arrested on Wednesday. Veneto Infrastructure Councillor Renato Chisso was arrested too, while around 100 people are under investigation
