Mario Villanueva

A former Mexican governor was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Manhattan to more than 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty last year to plotting  to launder proceeds of dirty drug money for one of Mexico’s most murderous cocaine cartels.
Federal prosecutors say Mario Ernesto Villanueva Madrid, 64, the former governor of Mexico’s Quintana Roo state accepted big bribes amounting to millions from the notorious Juarez Cartel, in exchange for assisting in the importation of over 200 tons of cocaine onto American streets
Villanueva Madrid  had been extradited on a second indictment in which he was charged with laundering nearly $19 million in drug proceeds, through accounts at Lehman Brothers in New York
