Vincent “Vinny” Artuso

A federal  court in Atlanta will hear an appeal Wednesday by Vincent “Vinny” Artuso, a high-ranking  captain of the Gambino crime family’s South Florida operations who prosecutors say is linked to the infamous “Big Paul” Castellano Sparks Steak House hit that led to John Gotti’s rise to power.

Vincent Artuso claims that prosecutors didn’t have enough evidence to convict him of fraud and racketeering charges involving a lengthy scam that cost ADT Security Services Inc. at least $11 million.

Federal prosecutors counter that the evidence was sufficient to convict Artuso of the fraud charges.

Prosecutors said Artuso, 64, was a “made member” of the Gambino family and directed a Palm Beach-based Mafia crew. He is currently serving a nine-year sentence.

Artuso allegedly participated in the 1985 assassination of Gambino crime boss Paul Castellano.  to read Click here: Reputed mob boss appeals fraud conviction  | ajc.com
