Gang Land’s Jerry Capeci writes
Michael (Mickey Dimino) Generoso, who followed his father into the mob and who rose to acting Genovese underboss when boss Vincent (Chin) Gigante wanted a well-respected, low key wiseguy to help guide the crime family during the turbulent 1990s, served both his families well during a rich and long life that ended last week at the ripe old age of 97.
Mr.Capeci writes, The promotion to underboss thrust him into the limelight. But it also placed him in harm’s way, legally speaking. In 1996, he was hit for the first time with racketeering charges along with18 other defendants.
A year later, he made mob history of a sort by taking and passing three lie detector tests – along with acting boss Liborio (Barney) Bellomo – to refute a murder charge in the indictment.
