Prosecutors are asking a federal judge for more time before they are legally bound to turn over discovery material to lawyers for James “Whitey” Bulger due to what they say is the “voluminous” amount of evidence collected over the years involving him and his cohorts.

“Much of this material has been boxed and stored for years and had been organized for use in other related cases including extensive civil litigation,” government lawyers wrote in a motion, filed today in U.S Federal Court in Boston, requesting a deadline extension to Aug. 21. read more Click here: Feds seek more time to turn over Whitey Bulger evidence – BostonHerald.com

The prosecutors trying the 81-year-old mob boss, who pleaded not guilty July 6 to a federal racketeering indictment charging him with 19 murders, said producing the discovery material involves the “reproduction of thousands of hours” of audiotapes and videotapes, hundreds of photographs, and databases of other related civil and criminal cases, including the Florida prosecution of his corrupt FBI handler, John “Zip” Connolly.
