bad Copper

“dirty  Copper”  Louis Eppolito

Eppolito has been shipped off to the high security federal prison in Tucson where he will serve a life sentence plus 100 years for participating in eight mob-ordered killings.

The son of a Gambino  mobster , Eppolito and his NYPD partner Stephen Caracappa, were convicted of passing confidential information to the Luchese crime family for years.

They even participated in some of the rubouts for underboss Anthony (Gaspipe) Casso.

“I know I’ll never see him again,” Eppolito’s estranged son Lou Jr. told the Daily News Thursday. “I think about him, but he’s gone. I know it sounds horrible, but I know he’ll never get out of prison so in my mind he’s dead

Eppolito, 60, had requested a federal prison near his family in Las Vegas and got his wish, said his lawyer Joseph Bondy.

Caracappa, 67, is serving his life sentence at a prison in California.
“It’s a serious penitentiary, but it’s a substantially better place than where he was [the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn],” Bondy said
.
“He’ll have regular contact with his family, better meals, outdoor recreation, educational opportunities and a better platform to work on his appeal.”
Another notorious inmate at the jail is former U.S. Rep. Randall (Randy) Cunningham who was convicted of taking bribes.
Despite his law enforcement background, Eppolito is in general population, which doesn’t worry his lawyer.
“Lou gets along with everyone,” Bondy said.
According to the Web site prisonofficer.org, a mentally disturbed prisoner recently beat up one guard and injured several others.
At one time, hooking up with a stand up wiseguy was a dream come true for any on-the-take flat-foot with his hand out. .Nowadays, being on-the-pad is a nightmare .  I mean, the roles have reversed and screwed things up in the underworld. Things are so upside down out there — its enough to make any self respecting crooked copper– scared into going  straight.      Anthony “The Animal” Fiato
