Aquila, 19 Dec. (AKI) – The Italian mafia Casalesi clan has been involved in reconstructing the city of Aquila largely destroyed in powerful 2009 earthquake, according to investigators, who arrested four businessmen on Monday for alleged mafia links.reports AKI
The suspects are thought to be associated of the Naples mafia, known as the Camorra, and sought to win millions-of-euros in private no-bid construction contracts.
Around 300 people died on 5 April 2009 when a 6.3 magnitude tremor struck the city of Aquila and the Abruzzo region in central Italy causing medieval and modern buildings to collapse. About 10,000 buildings were damaged. To Read Here
